Maison Gbegbe—Building On

Expanding the existing building in Agouegan, Togo

Construction of an extension to Maison Gbegbe in Agouegan began in October 2026. Before work started, members of the Union des Cultes Traditionnels du Togo (UCTT) blessed the site with libations, as shown in the photographs. Since the first temporary exhibition and assembly space was built together with residents of the village, Maison Gbegbe has hosted ceremonies, workshops, divination sessions, discussions, and gatherings. Now the building is expanding. The extension will include a kitchen, a bathroom, and a private compound next to the existing structure. These additions will allow Maison Gbegbe to accommodate visiting guests, including artists, researchers, traditional knowledge keepers, students, and friends from Togo, Benin, Germany, and elsewhere.

Our Voices in the Wind: A Rupture in the Fabric of the Norm

Performative reading, film screening, and talk
Saturday, October 24, 2026, 7–9 p.m.
alpha nova & galerie futura, Am Flutgraben 3, 12435 Berlin

With Lolita Yakunina and Julia Kafizova (performative reading), Mathilde ter Heijne, Vanessa Gravenor, and Sonya Schönberger (film screenings and talk). Part of the exhibition Dropping In and Out—A Response to Uncertainty (September 19–October 30, 2026).

In today’s precarious climate, marked by social and economic unrest, how do emerging artists narrate careers shaped by interruptions, breaks, and shifts? These ruptures may result from illness, migration, war, care work, or other circumstances that affect artistic careers but often appear only as gaps in a CV. By writing letters to historical figures who experienced similar disruptions and engaging in imaginary dialogues with them, the participating artists create new perspectives and points of orientation for the future. Through these readings, the past unsettles dominant ways of writing and telling history, raising questions about how queer-feminist legacies take shape through ruptures in established norms.

Which Dear Tears Prey / Wood Hares Flea Whether / Dew Bears Cents Beats / …

Gameplay as part of the group exhibition "What Comes Next?"
Sunday, June 18, 2023, 6 p.m.
Kunstverein Reutlingen, Germany

A game evening with cards and collaborative performances. Inspired by James Carse’s concept of the “infinite game”—which he contrasted with scripted and predictable “finite games” characterized by winners and losers, fixed boundaries, and rules—the game embraces and encourages collective creation, hybridity, and the transcending of individual identities. People come together to create, learn to collaborate, or simply exist in a space where they can transcend their individual selves.
